Read reviews about the mochiko chicken here, so decided to give it a try. The plate size was pretty normal, but the taste was real good. The chicken was cooked perfect. Not dry, rubbery and overcooked like most places. The sauce that comes with it takes it to another level. And you know what? it comes with soup and jello! Hows that! The price was really reasonable. If you come here you have to eat the mochiko chicken. Be returning! U know dat!!!

Quick service, friendly cashier. Order mochiko chicken plate and a chicken n eggplant with black bean sauce. Both with fried rice. I really like the food here very tasty and the prices are on the reasonable side. Like a mom n pop L&L. Also what I really like is that some plates come with some egg flower soup and choice of jello or mac. Always stop by if in the area and feeling hungry.

I was looking forward to this meal but was disappointed. The fried rice and egg flower soup were tasty, but chicken Katsu was not good at all. The prices were cheap and the man was so friendly that I would have tried it again if we were in town longer.

Quite possibly the worst food I've had this year! The hamburger my daughter ate contained some kind of weird filler which we never identified. I ordered the loco moco and it had zero flavor! Seriously, the hot sauce I added to try and jazz it up even tasted weird. We ate inside the restaurant and there were about a hundred boxes piled up in the corner. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend.

I used to eat here every Friday's with friends. I just started going back to this place because some of my friends are always trying to save money. Well, so I took my mainland family here and they loved it. We ordered the BBQ chicken plate and it was under 10 bucks. We all were full and couldn't even finish out plate. When you go to McDonald across the street you'r meal will be over 10 bucks and you will still be left hungry. We will probably start going here once a week so we can try everything over time. Even though I know not everything here tastes good. But that's why Yelp is here so I can rant about it, good or bad.

First time here I was a bit overwhelmed because they've got a such huge selection of plate lunches. I caved in and ordered something that sounded pretty boring, which was the honey garlic chicken. Holy honey boo boo, there was so much honey in there, why even bother with the garlic? I sampled some of my husband's mochiko chicken and it literally was like night and day. I've had mochiko chicken from other places before and it always seemed too dry to me. Not the case here. Now I this is the only place where I will order mochiko chicken. The sauce is actually what makes all the difference in the world. Also, their egg drop soup isn't so bad either. However, customer service could be better. One time I called in an order and I said I would be by for pick up in 10 minutes. When I arrived, the employee said that they ran out of mochiko chicken. So, she couldn't tell me that when I ordered on the phone or at least call me back in the meantime? Nope.

do not ever cater from them!! poor customer service and they say the have a policy that you need to bring back the spoiled food! who wants to bring back the stink food! i looked on my receipt and their menu there is nothing stating about a return policy! i got blamed for ordering too much and because the weather was too hot!!! wtf!! really!! when i brought back 2 out of the 5 pans that i could dig out of a dumpster, he still did not want to refund me!! he did not want to refund me the full amount of my lost!! beware of this place that gives you spoiled food

Tried this place around 10-15 years ago but decided to give it another try. Looks like they renovated this place since I last came here. Upon entering, I was greeted by the cashier and possibly the owner who suggested the special "Furikaki MahI". I was pleasantly surprised when my order was ready that it came with the soup of the day included as well as a choice of Mac salad or Jello. The Furikaki mahi was good and the egg drop soup was very good. From experience. any Furikaki fish usually gets over cooked but this was cooked just right were the fish was still moist. Probably going come back to try other items on the menu.

Food is good but the area is very trashy. Very disturbed looking people . One in particular disgusting foul mouth troll of a women .Raising her disgusting voice cursing out loud in front of children I believe she lived near by . Just a very trashy . Maby if the get ride of the trashy women it would not be so ugly . Other then that the staff was nice .

When this restaurant first opened up, their chicken katsu platters were only $9.99. How cool is that especially when you have a family of 6? Although years have passed, their prices are still reasonable. Their honey garlic chicken is great. We still order the chicken katsu on Sunday afternoons. Ohana's is the go-to restaurant for catering especially for this side of the island for birthday parties, after-game picnices, etc.

My family and I ordered takeout from here yesterday and it was pretty good. We ordered quite a bit of food too and it came out to about $44. We added some extra sides too like crab puffs, gaugee, and onion rings. The onion rings were very good and you can tell they were made at the restaurant and not the prepackaged kind from Costco. For the price though, i thought the portion was kind of small. The combo A and BBQ mixed plate came with soup and salad. The egg drop soup was surprisingly good, but the salad dressing was thousand island. I especially liked their mochiko chicken. It was flavorful and crispy. The one item I do not recommend is the sweet and sour spareribs. I thought they'd be deep fried little rib lets tossed in sauce but it was more like stewed meat chunks. Overall, the taste, quality, and value of the food items were satisfying. I prefer this place over l&l, which is right next door.

I had a surprise party to cater and Ohana really offered superb customer service and delicious food! Christine was highly responsive via email and really helped get things set for me. They even offered us a discount for our large order. Payment was due 3 days prior to event date. The free delivery was perfect and they arrived exactly on time! We had the following: Rice Mac Salad Chicken Fried Noodles Mongolian Beef Chicken Katsu Crab Puffs Furikake Mahi Sweet Sour spare ribs Everyone at the party raved about the food. It was all well prepared and tasted fabulous! I highly recommend them for your next party. The offer free deliver for orders over $150.

went ages to this drive in - was NOT happy but we decided a month ago to check it out - and we LOVE the place - found out that they have a new owner - who owns L & L and another - (forgot the name) the cashier there said that people don't know about them - cos of their location - not sure - but they are in our estimation - THE BEST drive in - in Ewa Beach - L & L is the same o same o - Loco Moco I wish was like the Kapolei one - which has lots of new stuff - the only things new is - that they sell duck , roast pork - and chicken - the seafood plate used to have mahi - and other seafoods - which is shrimp and ? - now just an unknown fish - no new items - but BUT with Ohana - they have 50+ items and more - combinations - they give you when you order a regular plate - egg drop soup, choice ALSO - mac salad or jello, now THAT is something - they DO give you a lot - we have been dropping by - pretty often - and have yet to not be able to select something new to try - we LOVE the mahi (the seafood platter has mahi, shrimps AND SCALLOPS, - onion rings are not the pre frozen kind - but HUMONGOUS deeliciousness - I had read some previous complaints but we have none - the foods are very delicious and we noticed lots of people - cater - we were there one day when these two women wanted to speak to the manager for a "party" they were having - the cashier said - her manager was busy as he was the cook that day and she did say later to us that he demands his help take care of that - the lady was angry as she asked for samples of EACH of the items - so she knows what to order - picturing such requests of such an extensive menu - impossible - so what if the cook did make it - it takes long - and she would probably not order - tho she said she was - going there and demanding service and not making an appointment unwise - specially since we know they had a huge catering order - NO common sense - just saying --- they cater and depending on order - it is FREE - we just are happy that they offer a very varied menu

Absolutely love their chicken katsu curry. Their beef broccoli is bomb as well! I just hate how out of the way it is. Other than that great food! Haven't ordered something here that I didn't like.

Great food and excellent customer service! They were very helpful. Decided to go here INSTEAD of L & L because of the customer service :)

Growing up in Ewa this use to be my go to place when hunger strikes. Through the years this place has kept the prices reasonable, portions sizes good, and they still serve Jello with your order. This place is so good for young ins that you see signs on the walls stating they will not serve kids during school hours. I assume with out an adult escort. C'mon people if kids are willing to cut school and get in trouble from the popo's for some food. The place has to be good. I've used their catering services a few times. They deliver withen the area if you order a minimum amount. They allowed us to change an item in the preset menu. The customer service is friendly, courteous, and quick. I'm glad though years have passed I can still count on Ohana's to fill me up at a reasonable price! Yelp 31 day challenge: 2/31 feed me on a budget

Tucked away in older Ewa, this place may be easily missed by the casual passer-by. Don't let the exterior fool you - Ohana Drive Inn serves good plate lunches at even better prices. Aside from the standard fare (short ribs, mahi mahi) they also offer chow mein, and crispy gaugee! The crispy gaugee is pretty good and pretty cheap, so if you're really craving some, I highly recommend you come here. The interior is simple, with a few tables for customers who want to eat in, but most people prefer to take-out. They do take plastic, so if you notice you're short on cash don't worry! I almost forgot to mention: They have a special where when you order an entree you get a free soup of the day! Your plate lunches also come with your choice of mac salad or jello. Enjoy!

I like ohana...I think it's the best fast food plate lunch restaurant in Ewa beach! I like a lot of things there...mochiko chicken is great and the garlic eggplant is wonderful! I also like the fact that I get soup and jello with every plate!!! Every little thing counts! Ohhh and they have hard noodles! It's perfect to go under the garlic eggplant!

  • Niki J.

This place is getting five stars from me because 1) it was delicious 2) I paid 8.25 for a HUGE meal and 3) they were fast. I went here with my sister and I had the combination lunch plate with chicken katsu with curry and loco moco. My sister had Kalua pork ad cabbage. Both came with two scoops of steamed rice, Mac salad and a bowl of egg flour soup. We both loved our food, and they were really quick. We took it to go because we live really close by. For a quick Hawaiian meal I would definitely make it a regular stop!

I work in Ewa Beach and will often choose a mini plate lunch from Ohana Drive Inn for lunch. Food is always decent, prices are reasonable and the cashiers who take my phone order and bag the food up are always on top of things. I've eaten here about a dozen times and haven't had a bad experience. It's not on the menu except for Friday as a special, but the Flounder is pretty tasty! I've also had them cater a party of 15 once and the food went over well with my guests. The owner delivered my order on time, hot and was grateful for the business.

Absolutely horrible. Anytime you see review on a restaurant in Oahu make sure you subtract at least 2 stars and then you'll get the real truth. The garlic chicken was horrible totally plain with some horrendous sauce on the side.

I moved to Ewa recently and decided to try some of the local hole in the wall places. I was super excited about trying this place. I got the honey garlic chicken, crispy gau gee and crab puffs. It was all pretty gross. The honey garlic chicken was neither sweet not garlicky it was kind of bland and had a questionable smell in short it was inedible and will be thrown out in tonight's trash. The gau gee was soggy and the crab puffs while ok they were not what I was expecting. The only thing I loved was the dipping sauce for the gau gee. Usually I give a place three tries before I quit but I literally described something to a friend as "too sewary" sorry Ohana drive in but I expect an evening of digestive issues ahead of me and do not plan on repeating this.

  • Marianne P.

I love their honey garlic chicken, its just the right amount of flavors added to it. It's usually not that busy, but come holidays and football games its so busy... Other than that the workers are really chill and friendly.

    (4)
  • Ed K.

It was OK. I had the Loco Moco, wife had roasted Pork. The haburger patties were dried hard to chew and too much gravy drowning evrything. I've had better. Wife's pork dish was over salty and also drowned in gravy. I'll pass on this.

  • Elle V.

I come here for every potluck I have to attend just because I want to eat the honey garlic chicken myself :) the workers are always friendly too and they have jello as one of the sides :)

The one thing that I like about this place is that you can get a free soup of the day along with your order.

If you are debating whether to spend your money here or L&L, spend it here where you can stretch it a bit further. Your typical Chinese style restaurant aim to satisfy the Drive-inn cravings. A tiny eatery if you want to "chill" in AC comfort. Regular plate lunches come with your choice of jello, Mac salad, or tossed greens; clearly take the jello or tossed greens, as the Mac salad pales in flavor. With all regular plate lunch orders, a soup is included; usually egg blossom with green onions, corn and tons of white pepper (cough, cough). A plate lunch order will set you back an average of $7. Oh, if you're thinking about looking in the kitchen... yikes, it's Chinese style; enough said.

Two words: Mochiko Chicken. It might as well be named Crack Chicken because I always end up ordering that whenever I'm in town. I can never get enough of it. They also have really good sesame chicken. Good eats after a surfing session.

Still trying to find other decent places in ewa, so i checked this place out. I tried the honey garlic chicken, sweet sourspare ribs, chicken katsu, & short ribs. Out of all, the chicken katsu was the most edible but not great. The honey garlic chicken had no garlic taste at all. It tasted sweet and gross. 2 bites and the plate was dumped. The short ribs and sweet sour spareribs was sub par. Mac salad wasnt great either. definitely a waste and not worth going to...

My family and I are regulars at Ohana Drive Inn! This place beats any other drive inns I've been to on this island! The food is great and the portions are super generous for reasonable prices! I absolutely love their honey garlic chicken, kalua pork and cabbage, beef broccoli and tofu eggplant! I also love how they separate the mac salad from their plate lunches so that it doesn't get warm! They had a special on their Korean chicken this time, so I decided to give it a try. It was quite delicious! This place is a must try!

  • Christine N.

I love Ohana Drive Inn! Definitely agree with what the other reviews said... if you are in Ewa Beach and looking for a plate lunch, this is the place to go. They give generous portions, more than what L&L gives. I usually have enough to take home for a second meal or late afternoon snack. While the menu includes everything from BBQ chicken to char siu fried noodles to oxtail soup, I appreciate the variety because I know that I will always find something that I want to eat here. It's best when you bring in kids because they give free Jell-O with your plate lunch purchases. The kids love it! Plus, if your kids are picky, they will surely find something here that makes them happy. I think that the owner is Chinese, so there is a nice Asian touch on some of the dishes here. Even though he doesn't speak English fluently, he is very friendly. A couple of times when I visited, he remembered me and came out of the kitchen to say hi. I had them catered for a birthday party once and everyone enjoyed the food, especially the honey garlic chicken and chicken eggplant. Delivery was on time (and free, because I met the minimum $180 purchase for delivery to Waipahu). I'll definitely be coming back for future events and meals!

There is a lot of choices here. They got your standard L&L-type plate lunches as well as a couple of house specials. Been here about 3 times within the last year. Each time I tried a chicken dish. First I tried was the mochiko chicken which I enjoyed. The sauce they included complimented it well. I upgraded to fried rice which was $1. Before I received my meal, the server was apologetic for putting in white rice instead and said that the cook is preparing the fried rice. That is GREAT customer service since checking orders before handing them off is a lost art nowadays. They put the fried rice in their mini plate container, so I scored even more! With each regular plate, you get egg drop soup. It was alright, but really added to the value of the meal. With each plate you have a choice of jello or mac salad. I opted for the mac salad. It was light and I didn't feel that guilty about eating it compared to other plate lunch places. One thing I really liked is that the mac salad comes in a separate container and doesn't warm up and mix with your food. Second time I went I tried the honey garlic chicken ( IIRC, been a while). I didn't know what to expect. It was more on the sweet side and garlic taste was light. Not bad, but I wouldn't order it again since I like my garlic chicken "leave my breath all stink" heavy on the garlic. When I went last month, I had the mini chicken katsu curry with fried rice. Katsu could be crispier, but the portions were so great that I couldn't finish the plate and only ate less than half the mac salad.

So why 5-stars? because its the best in Ewa Beach. Only Ewa Beach. Ever plate lunch plate is the same, but Ohana is definitely one of the most extensive menus that I have seen in a plate lunch establishment. they have the local favorites, mochiko chicken, garlic chicken and spicy alternatives, but they also managed to pad their menu with items from about every other culture known to man: orange chicken, meat jun, prawns, fried rice, mac salad, and on and on and on. I really don't think that you can come here, and not find what you are looking for, not only that, its very low cost! I picked myself up a two item combo, mochiko chicken and meat jun that came with the standard, two scoop rice and cabbage padding, then I had the option, dessert? or Mac Salad? - i chose the "lighter" version, dessert and THEN I learned that the particular Tuesday I came it, every combo got a free soup-side, so I was given a generous egg-drop soup side. The entire bill only came out to be about $9 and I was thoroughly satisfied with the value. The food tasted of standard plate lunch quality, and I am sure we have all come to be familiar with it - but value or selection and quality all stood out to me as five stars (FOR EWA BEACH). Overall, this is definitely going to be a place I return - when ever I ever find myself in Ewa Beach. Would I ever drive all the way out here just for Ohana? Hell no. 28/365

Had the Mochiko chicken after reading everyone's positive reviews and it was delicious (I absolutely agree that the sauce is what puts it over the top). I will have to temper this with the following though, my wife hated it and she normally loves Mochiko chicken at other places. The chicken was quite tender though. I don't know how else to put this though, the fried rice was terrible, the worst I've ever had, I got over it because the Mochiko chicken was great but the rice tasted kind of stale with a gross after taste. I'll have to try going again because maybe it was a one-time thing but if that's what's their fried rice normally tastes like, never again. Their Mac salad was only kind of nondescript, lots of mayo but not a whole lot of flavor, oh well.

I come here for one thing and one thing only... HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN. I've never tried anything else so I don't know how their food is, but if you're going to go there and don't know what to get, now you know.

Okay because of work I'm always on the westside in Ewa or Kapolei. I have yet to find a great place to eat with the exceptions of the lunchwagons by Cambell Industrial. Someone told me to check out Obama Drive Inn. Well the name intrigued me, so I had to check it out. Once again thank you to YELP for helping me find the right place which is called Ohana Drive Inn. Best way to describe its location is its across Ilima Intermediate. Let's see when I first walked I looked at the menu and realized this is more a Chinese restaurant with the menu dominated by Chinese food. However I was told to try the Mochiko Chicken for $5.25 and it came with Egg Drop soup and jello (or choice of mac salad) Let's see how best to describe the chicken....ehhhhh! They provided a shoyu sauce that was really sweet. Overall great price but the food lacked seasoning. I honestly rather go to the Manapua man down the street on North Road. Across the street from Ilima its Ohana.

Don't expect this place to be anything more than standard drive-in food. But do expect something a lot more worth your money than the L&L drive in and Loco Moco near by. As far as quality, taste, and variety goes, this place has it. If I'm craving something quick, cheap, chicken battered and fried, I'm going to take my money here! The portion is BIG for the price, you can get away with spending sub $7 and still have left overs (if you're small like me). But if you're a big local boy, you'll probably be able to grind it down no problem and at least feel satisfied. The meals come with a choice of mac, jello, or tossed salad. Choose the tossed salad if you want some greens, choose the jello if you prefer something salty, but DON'T choose the mac salad. It was bland, probably THE worst mac salad I've tasted on the west side. All their sides come in small packaged containers (super convenient), also leaves A LOT more room for the food they pile on in your order. The fried rice option is $1 more, it tastes only slightly worse than Panda Express fried rice. Personally, I might skip that extra $1 charge, I prefer not to ruin my taste for fried rice oh so quickly. They throw in a "soup," which if you go with the idea that "it's the thought that counts..." make it well worth it. However soup rating falls below canned soup! It's usually water, meat, some near to stale veggies, and salt boiled till soft. Not really that exquisite. BOTTOM LINE: To get your quick drive in grub, come here! Get the regular plate! You'll get a side plus soup! The plate comes LOADED too! DON'T do L&L (down 4 stores) or Loco Moco (across the street), they PALE in comparison to this place. P.S. Don't look into the kitchen and you won't have any problems, it's "Chinese" style (YUCK!)

First off Ohana is right down the road from my house so that's a plus already. Every now and than me and my husband goes out to eat and we always happen to go to Ohana. The food is great, the price is is reasonable for the amount of food you get. If your looking for decent homemade food go to Ohana. If your looking for food that taste like shit go to L&l several doors down.

  • Manu R.

Had the Chicken Katsu Curry with fried rice...nothing special. The cook even got my order wrong, giving me white rice instead. So Papa-san gave me a mini plate of fried rice free. Nothing special with that either...just peas and carrots from the can.

  • Johnelle P.

It's close to my house. That is already a plus. lol. The staff is friendly. The food portions are pretty awesome, so awesome that the mini is enough to feed my daughter and I. The prices are reasonable. I like to get the Jello more than the mac salad. To be honest, I don't really taste anything (flavorful) with the mac salad. Parking is okay, I don't usually see the parking lot very full. The food quality is good. I like the fact that I can kinda see the cooks cooking the food lol. They do island wide delivery on orders $250 or more. I know a bowling league that constantly orders from them come their banquet time :)

I love this place. Been going here since it opened. Food is always good and the boss/owner is a chill nice guy. Honey garlic chicken and Mochiko chicken are the popular items. They are solid on taste. Pretty much everything is good. They give good portion and price is very reasonable.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
